Abstract

The aim of this research is to know how the parent’s caring for their mental retardation children. What problems they met while caring for their children?, what kind of emotional reaction that showing up while they have mental retardation children?, what’s the effort that they have done to heal their children?, and what’s the factor that motivate or obstruct the parents to care for their children. This is qualitative research with fenomenolgy method. The data collected by observation and interview method. The informan of this research were two informans that having mental retardation children. The results of this research indicate that both of the informans caring for their children with different ways. To caring for the mental retardation children can’t with tight rule, but adjusted by the children’s ability. On caring process, both informans passed some process such as; first, after knowing their children have mental retardation by the doctor diagnosis, they immediately look for medical and alternative helps. Second, the informans gain the family, close friends and colleagues’s support. Meanwhile, the obstuct factors that both informans believe are social invironment, minimum knowledges about how to caring for the mental retardation children, feeling complicated, can’t devide or share time which also impact the financial. So, the meaning of caring for mental retardation children for both informans are always to grateful, accept their children condition, giving a special attention and also believe strongly to the God.
