Abstract

This research to intend for to determine how Hijaber Members of the Yogyakarta interpret the social identity of their community, how the experience Hijabers Members in hijab and how to maintain their community identities. This research used a qualitative approach using data collection methods such as unstructured interviews, observations that are directly related to the community and photo documentation of the subject during the activities of the community. Subjects were selected based on the time period to join with a Hijaber Community of Yogyakarta, which is 3 years and 1 last year. Results from this research that if the price of their dresses, dresscode members of each community events, and places are used for community events meeting, it impressed that the Hijaber Community is an exclusive community compared to other communities. Social identity that arouse is known as a community that consists of a group of fashionable women, who also use branded goods as well as the behavior of their members are not in accordance with Islamic law. The positive side of this community, including written rules such as no jeans tagline, no tights, no legging which forbid any members to wearing a dress in jeans material, thin and tight, and social activities are still held today. Factors that cause most of the members to same conducts, which is the desire to be accepted by the community. Both subjects believed the negative public view of their community. Maintain the identity of the group, two subjects maintain positive values that exiat within the community.
