Abstract

Gajahwong River is that crosses a densely populated urban areas. This study aims to determine the level of diversity and abundance of fish species that exist in the upstream region (Sardonoharjo-Caturtunggal) to middle (Baciro). The method used in this research is purposive sampling at 6 stations, which are determined based on the ease and feasibility of river conditions. Harp fishing nets that have hook size 3 mm, with the zigzag traverse along the banks of the river 100-200 m at each observation station. The observed environmental parameters include: temperature, pH, DO, and speed of water flow. The result showed 10 species of fish were grouped in 6 families and 4 orders. Guppy (Poecilia reticulata) is a species that has a number of the most widely spread throughout the station. Diversity was highest at station IV (Condongcatur) is 10 species.
