Abstract

This research aims to know the activities of preservation of ancient manuscripts in the library of Museum Radya Pustaka in Surakarta, as well as to know the factor-factor environment. This research is descriptive Research and qualitative methods the methods used. While the data gathering techniques in research is through interviews and observations as well as the study of literature or librarianship. The Data obtained were analyzed using three phases i.e. data is reduced, then the data is presented in the form of a narrative text and draw conclusions in accordance with the outline of the issues that have been elaborated. From the results of the research note that the factors causing damage to the ancient texts that occurs in the library of Museum Radya Pustaka in Surakarta is a factor the age of the ancient manuscripts, silver fish, insect nerds, mold, dust and the man himself. It is apparent from the circumstances of some books in the Library of ancient Manuscripts and storage space. Method of preserving ancient manuscripts in the library of the Museum Radya Pustaka of Surakarta is done with thedakan or created (copied), instead of letters, instead of Media/Digitization, A copy of the script, a script binding Thedakan have discaner or photographed, laminated, encapsulation, restoration of a torn paper patching, connect the paper tear, tighten the binding and replace the torn pages, tighten sagging binding thread, fixing the back book, hinges, or the book cover is damaged. To prevent damage to keep it from getting worse and to avoid insect destroyer, Codex or ejection is stored in cribs airtight plastic and the free acid, as well as the box gives the pesticides natural cloves that have been drained and wrapped with a perforated, tracing paper, silica gel. Then put in a cardboard box for the Codex or ejection. Vetiver is put on the shelf and storage cabinet paper as a tool insect repellent. Barriers experienced by Radya Pustaka Surakarta Museum Libraries in the preservation of ancient manuscripts activities i.e.,facilities and infrastructure as well as the preservation of ancient manuscripts storage space that has not been adequate, Human Resources experts new Cyrillic one man, don't have a librarian, and do not have a conservator's power.
