Abstract

The news about involvements of eleven members of Kopassus Grup 2 Kandang Menjangan Kartasura in the killing in Cebongan prison, Sleman, Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta became an interesting conversation because it raised the pros and cons in the society. Joglosemar newspaper, as the media that has published on the regional territory, covers a larger area than the local newspaper in Yogyakarta. Moreover, the special forces who involved in the killing were the members of Kopassus Grup 2 Kandang Menjangan which is located in Kartasura, Solo. Based on that fact, the researchers interested in conducting framing analysis studies about the framing of the murder case of Cebongan prison. This research was aimed to know how the framing of the murder case of Cebongan prison in Joglosemar newspaper in the period of 5 April until 20 April 2013. This research is a descriptive qualitative research. The data obtained from the text of the news related to the murder case in Cebongan prison in Joglosemar newspaper in the period of 5 April until 20 April 2013. The method of analysis used in this study is the analysis of framing models by Zhongdang Pan and Gerald M. Kosicki; they stated that the framing device consists of four structures, which is the syntax, script, thematic, and rhetorical. In this research, the researcher finds that Joglosemar newspaper has a frame that is quite clear in this news. That is although the eleven members of the Kopassus have acted against the law to commit the murder of four prisoners of Cebongan prison, the communities in Yogyakarta and Solo still hailing the eleven members of the Kopassus and many of them provided support in the form of banners. This happened because the four victims of the killing by the members of the Kopassus were hated by the society because they were a thug.
