Abstract

The purpose of this research aims to study how freezing in State Museum Sonobudoyo freezing in Yogyakarta is implemented. Freezing is an active quick method to kill parasitic plants and insects. This method is able to kill destructive insects and their on the manuscripts and books. Thus, whether the question is the freezing in state museum is accordance with the theory or not. This is obtained by freezing. This study used a qualitative descriptive method with phenomenological approaches. The object of the research is the freezing implementation while the subjects of the research is Sonobudoyo Yogyakarta. The method used to collect the data are observation, interview, and documentation. The methods used to analyze the data are data reduction, data presentation, drawing conclusions and verification which is based on Mettew B Miles’ and A. Michael Hubermans theory. While testing the validity of the data in this study conducted in four ways, namely credibility, transferability, dependability, and confirmability. Test validity using the technique of triangulation sources. The results of this study show that the cause of the destruction of ancient manuscripts because of the damage the insect with sheets of manuscript including silferfish, nerds, and book worm. Thus the existence of execution of the freezing is done in the State Museum Sonobodoyo can overcome the damage to kill insects and their eggs destroyer on the manuscript. In the implementation of freezing, the equipment used is to use the freezer, vacuum bag, vacuum sealler, brush, vaccum cleaner. Implementation process using temperature setting with long temperature -17 ℃ and lasts for 20 days. Constraints faced in the State Museum Sonobudoyo is still a lack of safety equipment officers in conducting freezing. Delays when making a script on the 2nd floor when the rainy season, so it takes quite a long time. This process is most important in the implementation of freezing as a preservation of the manuscript .
