Abstract

A learning process applying compelling appraoch, whether physical or non-physical, tended to be commonly practised nowadays. It created an unconfortable learning environment resulting fear and distress to the students. This nonconducive condition made the effort to achieve an optimum learning process and better result of study difficult, and could even fail it. The reason was because learning needed confortable and fun environment. Learning process never gave real success in a compelling, threatening and even fearful environment. The research developed a learning concept called edutainment. This concept was designed in such a way that learning and teaching processes were holostically performed by applying knowledge from various disciplines, such as how brain and memory worked, motivation, emotion, meta-cognition, and learning styles. It intended to bridge the gap between the process of teaching and learning. The problems were: how was the concept of education in Islam? Did learning process in Islamic education support the concept of edutainment? How was the application of edutainment concept in Islamic education? The research aimed to describe the concept of education according to Islam and identify the concept of edutainment in Islamic education. The edutainment concept built from the Quantum theory would be esed as an analysis tool in identifying the concept of edutainment in Islamic education. Data collection was accomplished by studying literature from written materials such as books, scientific journals, and online resources. The data were analysed applying qualitative data analysis following Miles, Huberman, and Spradley’s method. According to this method, the activity of qualitative data analysis was performed interactively and continuously at every stages of research until it was finished. The steps in analysing data were: data reduction, data display, and conclution drawing or verification. One of the important findings in this research was that Islamic education in the era of the Prophet Muhammad SAW and this followers was performed in an entertaining way. Unluckily, the practice of such learning had not been well conceptualised in Islamic education today, that it was possible to pass it from generation to generation. This was a meaningful finding in the effort of developing learning theories in Islamic education and increasing the quality of learning in islamic institution as well. Nowadays, one of the prominent weaknesses in learning process was the lack of variety in learning methods. The source of this problem was partly the limited knowledge and skills of most teachers or lecturers.
