Abstract

Christian-Muslim inter-relation within political sociology perspective and socio-historical analysis is rarely studied. Most of prior studies are focusedon political party affairs nationally. This study comes to reveal the relationship among religious politic, politic of party, and local potent of village including various legitimacies specially in controlling political economy resources hwen facing outsiders interest in terms of proselytizing or religious mission, Islamic path of mystic (ketarekatan), religious sect tenet (kepahaman), party affairs, and distribution of political economy results. Based on the Kasimpar and Karangkobar rural context, there are at least four question proposed. First, how do the religious groups of Islam and Christian meet and conflict each other within the rural context? Second, why are religious symbols designed to interpret the social facts and myth in the struggle for political economy resources? Third, how does the history of trauma inheritance for ex-PKI followers influencesocial religious group relationship? Four, how is the social conflict as the impact of the operating religious radicalism in the life of rural society? The result of this study are as follow. First, the relationship between Islam and Christian in Dieng village is related to social religious and political economy aspect of the society. These two aspects are related obviously by the history of the opening religious and economy area excluding Karangyoso did by Sadrach in 1883. As the passing time, the struggleof religious social myth for controlling political economy resources, the convertion of ex-PKI followers to Christian, inter-religious marriage, Christianization and Islamization become the source of latent internal social conflict as resistance of naluri and pisah tradition. The conflict becomes obviously and inclusively when the external source as Wonopringgo system and main church present among the Kasimpar and Karangkobar society. Second, the human and oppositional contextual religious interpretation of Islam and Christian group is effective in order to struggle and defend the religious social aspect and the control of political economy resources. Third, the conversion of ex-PKI followers to Christian has influence the social religious relationship between Islamic and Christian society at one side, and cause their unclear social function among the rural society at the other side. Four, the social conflict such as religious radicalism is not latent, but has been inclusive to various forms, from silent protest to hardness. There is a linear spatial pattern resulted from religious radicalism encounter, namely city-village-city, or the conception of “village attacking city”. The result above are self validating from the method and approach used in this research. The approachused is sosio-historic. The sociology used in this research tends to the French science tradition, including the conception of anthropology, ethnography, and sociology. In analyzing the field data, the researcher uses the la annals model introduced by Denys Lombard; and thick description of Geertz. Therefore, despite field research by in-depth interview, observation, and live in, the documentation is also used to collect the data. In this way, the case of Islam and Cristian relationship in Kasimpar and Karangkobar that tends to the fabrication of conflict could be not only model of, but alsoconsiderations of conflict resolution; or model for the same cases in the other area.
