Abstract

This research was conducted to describe the role of Kulon Progo Public Relations in managing conflicts, related to the International Airport development plan in Temon. Because Goverment of Kulon Progo regency was responsible for the conflict about International Airport development plan. Based on the issuing of presidencial instruction No. 2, 2013 about home security handling, the government of Kulon Progo plays a role to handle the social conflicts in Temon district related to the plan to the plan of building the International Airport. This research is a descriptive study in a government agency by using qualitative research methods with the primary and secondary data sources. Data collection techniques used in this study were interviews, observation, and documentation. The technique authenticity of the data used in this study was triangulation. And the analysis techniques used in this study were the model of Miles and Humbermen. Public Relations Officer of Kulon Progo Regency responsible for managing conflicts in Temon which is related to International Airport Development Plan. PR socializing and solving the problem informally by doing approaches towards people who will be affected by this airport mega project. It can be realized in the form of Safari Ramadan, Syawalan, sympathy, provide assistance to the public facilities and infrastructure, negotiate with the citizens and media, approach judical and legislative with the police, parliament, sub-district and village heads of the five regions who affected by the airport project in the form of deliberation to formulate the solutions of problems that are happening. Not only that, PR also plays a role in providing the realtime information in accordance with actual situation to the public and media about Airport Development plan in Temon and applying additional punishment for residents who commit vandalism.
