Abstract

Measuring astronomical distances are impossible doing now, people generally assumed that it is only have been done with advance radar technology. The purpose of this study are determines how to measuring AU and galaxy distance of SMC (Small Magellanic Cloud) 43522 using AstroImageJ and astronomy observation. Moreover we will compare two methods with effectively. For AU measurements using AstroImageJ includes determining several characteristics of the Sun and measurement by Solarscope observation using the data transit of Venus on June 8, 2004 for Jakarta (6º 10' S, 106º 49' E) and Rome (41º 56' N, 12º 30' E). While measurements of galaxy distances of SMC 43522 using AstroImageJ involves determining characteristic of Cepheid and Cepheid calculation method using standard candle. The results of this research are 158,688,199.5 ± 227,194 km for AU using AstroImageJ measurement and 146,777,724 ± 14,677,772.4 km using formula in Solarscope. While the results of the SMC 43522 measurements using AstroImageJ is 74.53± 14,9 kpc and measurement results with Cepheid calculation of 40.7 ± 0,001 kpc. The conclusion of this research are measurement AU using Solarscope is closer with and calculating galaxy distance using AstroImageJ are closer to the value expressed by NASA that 149,597,870.691 km and the result of galaxy distance using Cepheid calculation method as standard candle is closer to the value that stated the EU-HOU that 61 kpc. So this study was able to answer the relationship between astronomical observations, computational astronomy and astronomical theory.
