Abstract

Crop productivity of long beans (V. sinensis L.) is strongly influenced by soil fertility. The soil fertility is affected by fertilization and the presence of bacteria in the soil.Rhizobium sp and Azotobacter sp are soil bacteria playing an important role in maintaining soil fertility. This study aimed to determine the effect of administration of manure and chemical fertilizers on the abundance of Rhizobium sp and Azotobacter sp and the growth of bean plants (Rhizobium sp and Azotobacter sp (V. sinensis L.). Planting media consisted of sterilized soil sample, which then was treated by adding a combination of 1 kg chicken manure, 0,5 g NPK fertilzer, 1 mL Rhizobium sp and 1 mL Azotobacter sp; 1 mL Rhizobium sp and 1 mL Azotobacter sp; 1 kg chicken manure and 0,5 g NPK fertilizer. The calculation of bacteria colony number for Rhizobium sp and Azotobacter sp was performed by plate count method. The productivity of long beans (V. sinensis L.) was measured based on number of leaves, plant height and weight of pods. The results of data, analysed by Independent-Simple T Test on the number of colonies of Rhizobium sp, indicated that there was significant difference between treatments but not showing significant difference in the number of colonies of Azotobacter sp. Based on One-Way ANOVA analysis, the treatment variations affected the difference in the number of leaves but not resulting a noticeable difference in seedling height. The addition of a combination with 1 kg chicken manure and 0,5 g NPK fertilizers, and also addition with 1 mL Rhizobium sp and 1 mL Azotobacter sp bacteria are the best composition resulting the best productivity of long beans (V. sinensis L.).
