Abstract

Fiqh is a study of the practical Islamic jurisprudence that is taken from the detailed proofs or argumentations. One of the Fiqh book that is translated into many languages is Fiqh Al-sunnah by Sayyid Sabiq. It is also translated into English, but some of the fiqh terms are only found in Arabic. It makes the reader difficult to understand the terms. The writer wants to analyze what procedures are used for translating it and how the quality of the translation. In this research, the writer uses Newmark’s theory and some other experts for analyzing the procedure that is used by translator. The writer also uses Nida’s theory for analyzing the quality of the translation. The method used is descriptive-qualitative by doing library research. The writer finds 9 procedures in this research. 24 or 18,898% Fiqh terms translation uses the literal procedure; 6 or 4,724% uses the transference; 21 or 16,535% uses the descriptive equivalent; 4 or 3,15% uses the shift, 3 or 2,362% uses the modulation; there is only 1 case using the expansion; 54 or 42,519% uses the couplet; 10 or 7,874% uses the triplet; and 3 or 2,362% uses the omission. The quality of the translation of Fiqh Al-sunnah is as follows. 37 or 29,114% data have very good quality; 87 or 68,504% data have good quality and only 3 or 2,362% have poor quality.
