Abstract

This research aims at describing the role of social media which is used by librarians and aims at increasing the competency of librarian after they use facebook. This research uses descriptive qualitative. Data collection method in this research is observation, interview, and documentation. The used instruments in this research are the semi-structured interview guidance and checklist. Data analysis is done through collecting data, reducing data, serving data, and concluding. The informants of this research is the graduate of Library study of Bachelor Degree of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta who have become a librarian and active in social media especially facebook. The research finding concludes that through facebook, librarian can improve their competency in informational technology, informational skill, communicational and social skill, management and leadership skill, strategic and analytical thinking skill, behavior and personality, and marketing skill.
