Abstract

This research aims to examine on how "framing" the news that reported by the media is framed in conveying an incident in this point is the case of death row inmates "Bali Nine" in Online Media Tempo.co and CNNIndonesia.com Edition February 2015. The term "Bali Nine" is the name given to the mass media nine Australians arrested on April 17, 2005 in Bali, Indonesia. Two of them were Chan and Sukumaran who attempt to smuggle 8.2 kilograms of heroin from Indonesia to Australia and then both of them sentenced to death punishment. Towards the execution of the sentence, many people are questioning the good of punishment for them that the Australian government and the families of the victims who complained decision executions of the Indonesian government. Besides reporting on the case also heavily reported in the print media, TV, radio and online media. The method used in this research is a qualitative descriptive study with data collection through news clippings about the execution of convicted “Bali Nine” death penalty in the online media and Tempo.co CNNIndonesia.com Month February 2015 edition. Results of this research is based on analysis of Framing Pan and Kosicki indicate that CNNIndonesia.com have news Frame Counter executions against convicted “Bali Nine”. Meanwhile, the news Tempo.com Frame Pro against the Death Penalty Executions convicted Bali Nine. CNNindonesia and Tempo.co framing of the case by giving the impression to the reader through a particular emphasis on syntactic structure, script, thematic and rhetorical.
