Abstract
Education decentralization implemented starting January 1, 2001 brought a change in the management of schools, namely the School Based Management involving the role of schools and school committees to take every school policies and decisions. One of the important aspects in the MBS / M is a model of school leadership is applied. One model of leadership that is relevant to the MBS / M is a transformative leadership characteristics that have worked to change the situation. The principles of transformative leadership is a simplifi cation, motivation, facilitation, innovation, mobility, alert, and determination. Transformative leadership if applied in the educational institutions, schools and madrasas will bring a signifi cant contribution and infl uence in the progress of the institution. Key words: educational leadership, MBS/M.
