Abstract

This research discuses how the interpersonal relationship among woman active smokers. That relationship was analyzed by the theory of social penetration from Altman and Taylor. There are four stages of a relationship, that is orientation, exploratory affective exchange, affective exchange and stable exchange. A relationship also influenced by the cost and reward. This research was conducted in Kedai Kebun Forum Yogyakarta. In this study is explained concerning the development of relationship that occur among woman active smokers. The development of relationship is started from the introduction until become familiar. The descriptive method with qualitative approach is used in this research. Data collection method consist of interview process, observation, and documentation. The data is validated using data triangulation method. The results of this research is the development of relationship that occur among woman active smokers. That relations follow the stages of influenced the development of relations and cigarettes. Although cigarettes are not fully inflential in the development of the relationship. And in this research, explained that not all relationhips are woman active smokers who reach the stage of stable exchange. There is a relationship that only a third stage.
