Abstract

This research about the process of writing by librarian aims at understanding the motivation which encourage writer in writing in the Fihris Journal Volume IX Nomor 1 Periode Januari-Juni 2014. This research is qualitative research which is done with the descriptive approach. Data collection technique uses the observation, interview, and documentation. The data analysis which is done in this research is based on the Miles and Huberman’s theory with three steps of data reduction, serving data, and conclusion. In addition, the legality test for the data in this research is done through four methods, which are,: credibility, transferability, dependability, and confirmability. From the research, it can be concluded that motivation which affects writer is the encouragement for librarian in the competition for reaching achievement, the rate of the institution stimulus which is related to the role in stimulating writing, competitive environment for writing which is conducive from the internal or external parts, the degree of education or position which affects the quality and the quantity of writing, professional development which is maximum through training discussion routine for writing, and two-side communicational activity for writing guidance. The result of the research suggests that there is a need for change in the librarian’s thought and actions, which, in the first place, the process of writing is done for the sake of pragmatic credit value, and changes it into the essential importance in scientific communications between researchers.
