Abstract

This research aims to determines : 1. Influence Problem Based Learning model to higher order thinking skills of students in the material optical instruments. 2. An increase in higher order thinking skills of students in the material optical instruments. This research is a quasi experiment with pretest-posttest control group design. the research variables include independent variables such as Problem Based Learning (PBL) model and the dependent variable is higher order thinking skills. The population was class X SMA Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta 7 2014 / 2015 year academic. With class XA and XC as sample. Class XA as control class and class XC as a class experiment. The used instrument in this study is test higher order thinking skills. Data analysis technique used statistical parametric t-test and normalized Gain (N-Gain). The research results showed that (1) There is the influence of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model to the higher order thinking skills of students in the material optical instruments (value Sig. 2-tailed) = 0.001 <α = 0.05; then Ha accepted. (2) There is an increase in high order thinking skills of students who take the Problem Based Learning model to higher order thinking skills (N-gain experimental class = 0.43, as well as the value of effect size indicates the value of 0.52, which means the difference improvement in middle category.
