Abstract

In conducting the task as the source of information, village library faces a challenge for fulfilling the reader’s needs. Village library is an institution owned by society which is formed by, from, and for society. Village library has an important role for society as a mean for serving society’s information and self development and also in improving people’s reading interest. This research aims at understanding the role, supporting factors, and obstacles, and also the efforts which re done by creative library in improving the people’s reading interest in Mudal Village, Temanggung District, Temanggung Regency. This research uses descriptive qualitative approach. Data collection technique uses documentation, observation, and interview. Data analysis is based on Miles and Huberman with three steps which are data reduction, data serving, and also conclusion and verification. The result of this research is the success conducted by the creative library in improving society’s reading interest in Mudal Village. It can be seen from the efforts which are done through, holding library socialization to the society for introducing and utilizing the collection which are served, conducting library cooperation, giving motivation to the society, and conducting a competition for attracting society for visit. The role of library can be fulfilled because there are appreciation, feedback, awareness, and enthusiasm from the society toward library. And, as expected from the local village government to allocate funds for library development.
