Abstract

The improvement of physics learning quality is intensively needed for learning physics through variation of models and learning methods such as cooperative learning. This research aims to know effects of cooperative learning model type think pair share (TPS) using problem solving method toward cognitive physics learning outcomes and motivation of students especially on temperature and heat subject. The kind of this research is quasi experiment using Nonequivalent Control Group Design. Population in this research is X grade of Senior High School of UII Yogyakarta academic year 2015/2016. Sample of research is taken by using a saturated sampling technique. The technique that is applied uses the instrument of the test called pretest matter and posttest matter and Non-Test (questionnaire) called questionnaire sheet of motivation in learning physics. The data analysis technique uses the descriptive statistic and N-Gain formula. The result of this research are: first, Cooperative learning model type think pair share (TPS) using problem solving method can increase cognitive physics learning outcomes of students on temperature and heat subject. The result of the data analizing shows increasing of cognitive physics learning outcomes with score average 56,22 with middle criteria. Second, Cooperative learning model type think pair share (TPS) using problem solving method can increase students motivation in learning physics on temperature and heat subject. The result of the data analizing shows the increasing of student motivation in learning physics with total score 856 with high criteria.
