Abstract

Traffic congestion in the freeways is a serious problem for modern society. The dynamic traffic management is a solution alternative of the good to improve the efficiency of the existing networks. In this research is to analyze a section of the freeway network and to study its analytical model (METANET) that belongs to the set of macroscopic freeway models where traffic is described in aggregate terms such as average speed, flow, and traffic density. Using a piecewise-affine (PWA) approximation of the METANET model is the purpose of traffic control and tested in a model-based predictive control framework. A PWA approximation of the METANET model was made to ease the computational of the nonlinear nonconvex model - based traffic control, the approximation can be used in a model predictive control (MPC). Several model equations of the METANET model are approximated by a PWA function. As a direct PWA-MPC approximation computation, the PWA model equations were converted into a mixed integer linear programming (MILP). Then, perform numerical simulations with using MATLAB of the METANET model.
