Abstract

There are many cases where teenagers have to stay and live with grandparents or other relatives since abandoned by their parents since childhood. The motives can vary as much work, divorce, and even some parents who willfully neglect their children. Experience exiled, abandoned, shunned and neglected parents often imprint so deeply to cause deep emotional wounds, even traumatic. Therefore, this study aims to determine how the process of posttraumatic growth in adolescents who abandoned by their parents. The method used in this study is a qualitative research method with phenomenological approach. The collection of data through observation and interviews. Subjects of this study were adolescents of the age range of 17-20 years old who have been abandoned since childhood because their parents work away, divorce, or something else. From the results of the study showed that there are several stages in the process of posttraumatic growth in adolescents who abandoned their parents is the crisis stage, rumination, self-disclosure, emotional management, and changed, to eventually reach posttraumatic growth. There are three factors that affect posttraumatic growth, which time and type, it takes a long time for adolescents weeks to grow and develop after experiencing adversity. A further factor is social support, social support obtained from the grandmother, relatives, and friends as teenagers can express myself well. Latter factor is coping styles, which are active coping styles can help youth in posttraumatic growth.
