Abstract

Persuasive communication techniques became a way to persuade a child to grow and develop interest in reading. This research describes how the application of persuasive communication techniques in Komunitas Jendela Yogyakarta as a community engaged in the education of children, especially in growing interest in reading. Reading interest in Indonesia is low, making this community care for the young generation. This research illustrates how the use of persuasive communication techniques to grow and develop interest in reading in children. The application of proper technique can persuade children to want to read that grow and develop that interest in reading. This reseacrh used qualitative descriptive method. The data were collected using interviews, observation, and documentation. To check the validity of the data using triangulation of sources. The results of this research showed that persuasive communication techniques can be used as a tool to grow and develop interest in reading in children. Persuasive communication techniques include: teknik asosiasi, teknik integrasi, teknik tataan, and teknik red-herring. These techniques are applied when it has entered the stage of implementation of the program. The technique that not used is teknik ganjaran. This technique is prohibited because it will be dependent on a gift, so it is not good for the long-term future.
