Abstract

The objective of this research was to know the perceptions of library users toward the convenience of reading in reading area at the Vredeburg Fortress Museum’s library in Yogyakarta. This research was a qualitative research. The subjects of this research were the visitors of the Vredeburg Fortress Museum’s library in Yogyakarta and the objects of this research was the perceptions of library visitors toward the convenience of reading in reading area at the Vredeburg Fortress Museum’s library in Yogyakarta. This research used the formula of Yamane to count the amount of sample that was used in this research and the amount of the sample in this research was 68 users counted using incidental sampling. This research used single variable which was the Perceptions of the User toward the convenience of reading in reading area at the Vredeburg Fortress Museum’s library in Yogyakarta and was explained with 7 indicators. At collecting method used in this research was questioner with likert scale, observation and documentation. The validity test used Alpha Chrinbach supported by SPSS 17. Data analysis of this research used Mean formula and Grandmean, while the result was elaborated using Interval scale. The results of this research were; color was about 3.18, noise was about 2.79, furniture was about 3.31, temperature was about 3.19, lighting was about 3.07, psicis was about 3.20 and health was about 3.07. From the results the highest average was the furniture indicator with 3.31, while the lowest average was the noise indicator with 2.79. The extrapolation of the final average was 3.11 point used the Grandmean formula, thus, the conclusion was the users felt comfortable reading in reading area at the Vredeburg Fortress Museum’s library in Yogyakarta. So that, the researcher’s suggestions to the Vredeburg Fortress Museum’s library were about giving more concern to the noise issue, better lighting and the temperature inside and outside reading area.
