Abstract

Inequality of a region is one of the problems of economic development. Effective economic development is the hope of every region in Indonesia. Given the different economic growth and human development index (HDI) between regions, the growing number of people, and the uneven amount of industry in some areas can cause inequality and income disparities between regions. This study aims to analyze the factors that affect income inequality between districts / cities in West Java Province period of 2012-2015. There are four independent variables used in this research are economic growth, HDI, population and industry. Methodologically, this study uses secondary data in the form of panel data consisting of time series for five years ie 2012-2015 and crossection 27 regencies / cities in West Java Province. Meanwhile, data analysis used in this research is REM (Random Effect Model) method. West Java Province in 2012-2015 has increased from 0.30 in 2012 and 0.33 in 2015, the figure can be categorized in moderate inequality; Second, economic growth and HDI have no significant effect on inequality; Third, the population and industry have a significant effect on inequality; Fourth, those variables have R2 of 0.295455. This figure indicates that the variable of economic growth, HDI, population and industry can explain 29.54 percent variable income inequality among regions. The rest is 70.46 percent, which means the income gap between regions is explained by the variables not included in this study; And fifth, in the perspective of Islamic economics, income inequality that occurs in districts / cities in West Java Province can be minimized with government policies that can ensure sustainable economic development and based on the equitable welfare in society (تصرف الإمام على الرعیة منوط بالمصلحة) .
