Abstract

This entitled thesis is “Visual and Verbal Construction of Amer Alzoubi‟s Caricature about the Conflict in Syria at Mass Media Aljazeera.net Online Site” This study aims to reveal the ideology that captured in the caricatures Amer Alzoubi which constructed through symbolic visual and verbal form within describing the conflict in Syria. This research uses framing theory of Robert N. Entman by using four schemas and it is as, 1). Problem Identification, 2). Causal Interpretation, 3). Moral Evaluation, and 4). Treatment Recommendation. The method in this research is library research that is used to collect data and evidence required in analyzing of object research. The results of the study found that visual and verbal construction in the caricature of Amer Alzoubi about the conflict in Syria at mass media Aljazeera.net online site has refers that his ideology is pro-American liberalist. Alzoubi‟s ideology be visible from the forms of visual and verbal language he uses and that hammered at the image of the citizens suffering and the restraints of the Assad regime also his political alliance which is cruel and dictatorial to the Syrians rebels, especially those who living in conflict zones like in Aleppo. Amer Alzoubi ignored the intervention of the United States and its Western alliance, as well as regional interventions such as Saudi Arabia and Qatar which also secretly supplied opposition weapons against the Syrian government. In describing four framing schemes through his caricature, Amer Alzoubi also shows his liberalist ideology, such as the first scheme of problem identification that shows that he defined the conflict in Syria as a form of Assad's cruelty and his alliances such as Russia and Iran. The second scheme is a causal interpretation that shows that the revolution of the government system that the Syrians want, which has been felt constrained and tyrannized by the Assad regime and his family, which has only enriched itself for more than 30 years, has fueled the emergence Syria conflict that dominated by the resistance of the Assad regime Against the rebels. A third scheme is moral evaluation that shows if the Assad regime and its colleagues are authoritarian, dictatorial and cruel to the rebels by bombarding the opposition territory which has resulted in the number of civilians who are also victims. The fourth scheme is a treatment recommendation which shows that as long as Assad does not get off his seat, the Syrians will not feel the freedom and conflict will remain, and will not find any bright spots even if peace talks are held. ( INDONESIA ) Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap ideologi yang tergambar dalam karikatur Amer Alzoubi yang dikonstruksikan melalui bentuk visual dan verbal yang bersifat simbolik dalam mendeskripsikan konflik di Suriah. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan framing Robert N. Entman dengan menggunakan empat skemanya yaitu, 1). Problem Identification, 2). Causal Interpretation, 3). Moral Evaluation, dan 4). Treatment Recomendation. Metode dalam penelitian ini adalah library research yang digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data-data maupun bukti-bukti yang diperlukan dalam menganalisis objek penelitian ini. Hasil penelitian yang ditemukan menunjukkan bahwa konstruksi visual dan verbal dalam karikatur Amer Alzoubi tentang konflik di suriah dalam media massa online Aljazeera.net. telah menunjukkan ideologinya yang liberalis pro-Amerika. Hal tersebut tampak dari penggunaan bentuk tanda dan simbol visual maupun verbal yang lebih menonjolkan gambaran penderitaan dan pengekangan rakyat Suriah yang dilakukan oleh rezim Assad beserta aliansinya yang bersikap kejam dan diktator terhadap warga Suriah, khususnya mereka yang bermukim di wilayah berkonflik seperti Aleppo. Amer Alzoubi mengabaikan intervensi negara Amerika Serikat beserta sekutu Baratnya, serta intervensi wilayah regional seperti Arab Saudi dan Qatar yang juga secara diam-diam menyuplai persenjataan pihak oposisi untuk melawan pemerintah Suriah. Dalam menggambarkan empat skema framing melalui karikaturnya, Amer Alzoubi juga menunjukkan ideologi liberalisnya, seperti dalam skema pertama terkait problem identification yang menunjukkan bahwa ia mendefinisikan konflik di Suriah sebagai bentuk kekejaman Assad beserta aliansinya seperti Rusia dan Iran. Skema kedua berupa causal interpretation yang menunjukkan bahwa revolusi sistem pemerintahan yang diinginkan warga Suriah yang selama ini merasa terkekang dan terdzalimi oleh rezim Assad beserta keluarganya yang hanya memperkaya diri selama lebih dari 30 tahun, telah menjadi penyulut munculnya konflik di Suriah yang didominasi oleh perlawanan rezim Assad terhadap pihak pemberontak. Skema ketiga terkait moral evaluation yang menunjukkan bahwa rezim Assad beserta para koleganya merupakan pihak yang otoriter, diktator, dan bersikap kejam kepada para pemberontak dengan memborbardir wilayah oposisi yang berakibat pada banyaknya warga sipil yang juga menjadi korban. Skema ke empat yaitu treatment recomendation yang menunjukkan bahwa selama Assad tidak turun dari kursinya, maka warga Suriah tidak akan merasakan kebebasan dan konflik akan tetap terjadi di Suriah, dan tidak akan menemukan titik terang meskipun berbagai perundingan damai gencar dilakukan.
