Abstract

Gold is now used as a decoration of food to produce a sumptuous meal. Food trends become viral among consumers, so many producers are competing to make a food with a gold sprinkles in all forms. Gold is classified as a food additive which is inert (not reacting). Some people are considered this food trend as a dangerous thing, because consumers swallow something that is not unusual for consumption. Whereas in Islam, we are not allowed to do something that could endanger ourselves or others. Based on the problem, the researcher is interested to analyze how Maqashid Sharia analysis towards the food serving which is decorated by gold sprinkles. The theory used in this research is maqashid shariah and culinary aesthetic. This research is a library research which is documentation study from various references related to the problem both primary and secondary. This research is a descriptive-analytic research which explains the condition that occur with the aim of bringing the facts which followed by the facts of analysis which fullfill and responsible as an effort to find the answers and the problems as well as to determine the existing of value or legal status of the issue. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that the food is decorated with gold dust using edible gold type that has food grade label. The label is a guarantee of safe or non-toxic gold content for consumption. This type of gold metal can dissolve in the body. Regarding the security of gold leaf according to the European Food Safety Authority states the use of gold for food decorator is allowed although the security data has not been comprehensive. However, the taxicology data that describes the complete related side effects of edible gold is not there. Then the law is mubah (allowed) to be consumed. Maqashid Syari'ah perspective, in analyzing the problem is that human life can not be separated from food as a medium to survive. Now a days, food has become a phenomenon that attracts human attention, it is not just to reduce the hunger, but there is a hidden meaning behind food. One of the hidden meanings in food can be explored through art and aesthetic studies. Apparently, there is a meaning that can make another meaning as an art. This can be achieved through an aesthetic appreciation involving the function of perception and the digging of meaning by human itself.
