Abstract

The purpose of this research is to answer three important questions. The first is the Piil Pesenggiri values which are implemented. The second is the process of implementing the Piil Pesenggiri values in environmental-based character education. The third is the results of implementation of the Piil Pesenggiri values in environment-based character education toward students‟s character in Al-Karim Natural Elementary School of Lampung. The type of this research is qualitative research with a case study approach. The techniques of data collection are participative observation, structured interview, documentation, questionnaire, and data triangulation. Data analysis is carried out by data reduction, data presentation, and data conclusion based on data which has been tested for validity by testing the credibility of data. There are three conclusions of this research. The first is the Piil Pesenggiri values do not become the priority values which are not implemented and there are only three values which are prioritized of the four Piil Pesenggiri values which are Nemui Nyimah, Nengah Nyappur, and Sakai Sambayan. The second is the Piil Pesenggiri values, theoretically, intensely are only implemented in Lampung language lesson at high level. The Piil Pesenggiri values practically are integrated into all of curriculums that are the logika sains, akhlak islamika, leadership, and business through academic and non-academic activities with practice and reflection method. The academic activity is teaching and learning activity, while non-academic activities are daily routine, weekly, monthly, semester, annual, spontaneous, model, and talent class program. The third is according to facts in the field, the students‟s character is good enough. The students practiced the courteous, generous, honest, friendly, tolerant, communicative, caring for the environment, caring social, respect, responsible, hard working, meeting, helping, mutual help, religious, sincere, patient, discipline, creative, grateful, tawāḍu‟, tawakkal, istiqāmah, brave and nationalist values. However, The students do not have the awareness that the values practiced are part of the Piil Pesenggiri values . The knowing and feeling of students about the Piil Pesenggiri values are still very low, even they feel strange by Piil Pesenggiri as a moral reference or the original character of Lampung society containing the positive values to always be preserved and actualized through mindset, attitude, and behavior in daily life. The finally, the implementation of the Piil Pesenggiri values practically is not fully to build the students‟s character if intensely is not implemented by knowing and feeling of the Piil Pesenggiri values.
