Abstract

Indonesia is a country that has diverse ethnicity, language, religion and culture so that multicultural education needs to be done in an effort to maintain and bring about unity in difference. Besides that, the widespread behavior of moral degradation in the nation's children requires solutions to overcome them. Although the effects of technological advances can have a positive and negative impact on the nation's morals. However, in the effort to implement multicultural education and character value education in the digital era, it can now be done by utilizing the information contained in various digital media such as multicultural and character based animated films. The purpose of this study was to determine the multicultural education and education of the character values of Thomas Lickona's perspective in the animated film Diva the Series, knowing the methods used in multicultural education and character value education in the animated film Diva the Series and knowing the implications of developing animated film based learning media in the process multicultural education and character value education. The study uses content analysis method, with the approach of semiotic structuralism, data collection techniques include interviews and documentation with data analysis techniques using descriptive content analysis. The results of this study include: 1) Thomas Lickona's multicultural education in the Diva the Series animated film includes the introduction of Indonesian society's culture, tolerance, and togetherness and brotherhood. 2) Education values of Thomas Lickona's perspective in the animated film Diva the Series include: tolerance, honesty, responsibility, discipline, help and cooperation. 3) Multicultural education methods namely persuasion methods and character value education methods include: a) Exemplary methods, b) Story methods, c) Gift methods, d) Advice methods, e) Punishment methods, and f) Habituation methods. 4) Implications for developing animated film based learning media in the multicultural education process and character value education is that children get more knowledge about multicultural education and character value education at one time and learn to apply these values through the scenes shown in the film. Characteristics of animated films can be used as a multicultural education media and character value education for children including: a) Multicultural based animation films and character values, b) Material about multicultural and character values are discussed in a simple, clear, interesting and age appropriate manner, c) Messages in animated films are in accordance with the learning objectives, d) Recalling at the end of learning.
