Abstract

Arising cases of free sex, including sexual harassment to children, show the importance of sex education. The increasing development of sophisticated electronic media has led the school-age children to be able to access everything related to negative things. In Islam, sex education gets serious attention to be taught to teenagers. There are Muslim scholars, such as Abdullah Nashih Ulwan and Ali Akbar, who concern about this issue. This study concerns how to provide sex education to teenagers in terms of Abdullah Nashih Ulwan and Ali Akbar’s thoughts. Meanwhile, this study focuses on discussing three main points: 1) What is the thought of Abdullah Nashih Ulwan on sex education? 2) What is the thought of Ali Akbar on Sex Education? 3) What are the differences and similarities of their thoughts on sex education? This study is a qualitative research. It is a library research type by using primary data sources from the book entitled Pendidikan Anak dalam Islam (Children Education in Islam) by Abdullah Nashih Ulwan and the book entitled Seksualita in terms of Islamic Law by Ali Akbar. The data analysis process in this study uses Descriptive Content Analysis method. The results of this study show that: 1) Abdullah Nashih Ulwan considers sex education as an effort of teaching, awareness and information about sexual problems among teenagers, since he knows the problems related to sex instincts and marriage through awareness, warning and binding. 2) Ali Akbar considers that Sex Education in Islam regulates sexuality starting from genitalia, clothing, vision and sex, and lust. 3) a. The similarity is that both of them provide sex education based on religious education. In discussing the concept of sex education, both use a psychological approach. b. The difference is that Abdullah Nashih Ulwan tends to focus on the processes; meanwhile Ali Akbar tends to focus on the materials.
