Abstract

This study aims to (1) describe information literacy skills of the resident of Desa Saok Laweh, (2) describe the information seeking behavior model of the resident of Desa Saok Laweh, and (3) find out the relationship between the information literacy skills and the information seeking behavior model. These three things are measured after the Program Buku Bergulir is conducted since 2017. This research uses quantitative methods. The analysis was carried out descriptively (tables and graphs) and inferentially (Pearson Product Moment Correlation Test). The population of this study was 5,654 people. From the population, 30 persons were taken for the questionnaire trial and by using Slovin formula, 98 persons for the sample. The results of the study are (1) the average score for the variable of information literacy skills is 2.80 which is categorized as High, from 7 (seven) indicators of information literacy skills there were 6 (six) High category average scores and 1 (one) average score in the Very High category; (2) for information seeking behavior model variables obtained an average score of 2.73 categorized as High, all indicators (eight indicators) have a high category average score; (3) the correlation between the information literacy skills variable and the information seeking behavior model variable is 0.82 (very strong) which is significant at the error rate (alpha) of 0.05 (5%). The coefficient of determination is 66.91%. It can be said that the Program Buku Bergulir can improve the information literacy skills and information seeking behavior model is suitable to the model suggested by David Ellis. Based on the results of the research, the following suggestions were proposed. (1) It is necessary to improve the information literacy skills of the people of Desa Saok Laweh. (2) Development of the Program Buku Bergulir can be done by considering the information seeking behavior model of the village community. (3) Increasing the ability of information literacy and adjusting information seeking behavior models can be done simultaneously. From this research, things that were quite interesting were obtained, namely that the literacy skills of the village community could be improved and the information seeking behavior model of the village community could be adjusted to the models proposed by experts. The new fact is that these improvements and adjustments require a library and librarian proactive attitude. The Program Buku Bergulir turned out to be able to start the changing of the oral tradition of society into writing tradition.Another novelty is that the size of a small library building is no longer a measure of the success of a library in carrying out its functions.
