Abstract

This study aims to (1) produce simulation models for the geometric optics phenomenon explored with Algodoo, (2) identify how students responsethe simulation of geometric optics phenomenon explored with Algodoo. This research is research and development (R&D). The development model used in this research is a procedural model. The simulation was developed using the PhET development procedure which includes 7 steps, they are (1) Learning Goals (2) Initial Design (3) Interviews (4) Redesign (5) Interviews (6) Classroom Use (7) Final Design. The validation of simulation was iternally conducted in coordinated discussion between researcher and advisor. The validation refers to the validation by PhET Simulation. The research instruments used were interview sheets, student response questionnaire sheets, and simulation implementation observation sheets. Student responses were obtained from student questionnaire responses which using the guttman scale, while observations of implementation delays used descriptive observation sheets. The results of this research are 20 simulation studies for the phenomenon of geometric optics explored with Algodoo. Student responses to the simulations in the class belong to the category of agreeing with the score for each aspect are;the convenience aspect of operating the simulations (0.77), clarity aspect of simulations (0.81), aspects of student self-reliance in operating the simulations (0.71), and aspects of student enthusiasm in learning to use simulations (0.86). Student responses that was gained used student questionnaire responses are supported by observations from three observers who observe every aspect of student responses and all aspects has been well manage properly.
