Abstract

ABSTRACT Variations in measured magnetic fields on the surface of the Earth or often called geomagnetic activity can be measured using geomagnetic indices such as the Kp (K-Planetary) index and the K index. The Kp index represents global magnetic disturbance. Whereas the K index represents the level of local geomagnetic interference on the horizontal component of the Earth's magnetic field for each time interval of three hours. Index K is an integer in the range of 0-9. To determine the K index, the geomagnetic observation station data in Biak (geomagnetic coordinates -9,73 °; 208,39 °) are used in the span of about 1 solar cycle (1992-2004). The results obtained were also compared with the results of calculations using Kakioka station data (geomagnetic coordinates -26 °; 209,4 °) in the same time frame. To reduce the K index, the information on geomagnetic calm day is used as geomagnetic calm day. The Sq field is decomposed using Fourier series analysis up to the 4th harmonic in each component
