Abstract

This research is considered important because at this time many traditional cultures that exist in many regions in Indonesia have begun to become extinct because there is no enthusiasts anymore, especially the youth. One of the village that succeeded in preserving traditional culture in their village is Pancoh Village, which it can be happen because of the persuasive communication strategies that were successfully carried out by the village elders (sesepuh desa) in Pancoh Village in fostering youth interest in their village to learn Karawitan Culture. This researchaimed to describe about the persuasive communication strategies of village elders in Pancoh Village in fostering youth interest in learning Karawitan Culture at the "Taruno Budoyo" Karawitan Group in Sleman Regency. This research used descriptive research type and qualitative research methode. The data collection methods that are used through: interview, observation and documentation. The data analysis method used interactive analysis from Miles and Huberman and to check the data validity using data source triangulation. The result of this research fromthe persuasive communication strategiesofMelvin L. De Fleur and Sandra J. Ball-Roceach (1989) showed that the most appropriate persuader who did persuasion is the persuader who had emotional closeness with the persuadee. Then persuadee interest can be fostered by influencing the psychology of persuadee using selfencouragement in individual from persuadee and emotional factors. The environment around the persuadee can also foster the interest of youth and the knowledge that given from persuader to persuadee can foster persuadee's interest through selfencouragement in individual and from emotional factors.
