Abstract

Paper Entitled: Family Communication Style in Children with Difficult Temperament. This study raises it’s focus to phenomenon about how family communication is carried out on a family with difficult temperament children, the phenomenon is happening at small village of Hargotirto, Kokap, Kulon Progo, Yogyakarta. The goal of this study is to understand the style of communication that used inside the family of the difficult temperament child. The study use qualitative approach with Ethnography Communication Method, with the help of observation technique, interview and documentation study as mean of data gathering. The Results of this study in general can be described as an answer to the style of communication inside the family, from assertive, aggressive, to passive. From all three above, the most dominant communication style is aggressive style. The use of aggressive communication style inside the family is boosting the inclined children to have difficult temperament. The reason is because it deplete the confidence of the child, and make the child become isolated and so is feeling not wanted by the parents. From this study, the recommendation from the researcher is to understand what the child inclined before adapting the communication style, because the result is very different between individual, or in this case, a child.
