Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the role of libraries in increasing reading interest in Children with Special Needs at the Budi Mulia Dua Panjen Elementary School Library and the impact of the Budi Mulia Dua Panjen Elementary Library program on reading interests of Children with Special Needs. The type of research method used is a qualitative method. Data collection techniques that researchers use are interviews, observation, and documentation. Testing the validity of the data in this study using triangulation techniques. The results of this study can be seen that the policies undertaken by the library in increasing interest in reading Children with Special Needs are providing the collections needed by Children with Special Needs, genius hour programs, reading is fun programs, reading activity programs, reading corners and gardening. The impact of the library program on Children with Special Needs is to be able to increase interest in reading, increase creativity, increase self-confidence and increase independence. The suggestion is that the Librarian should be more active in monitoring the progress of each program. In addition, librarians also need to be more involved in each program and to maximize the impact of increasing ABK reading interest, the library needs more coordination with ABK companions in order to understand ABK's needs related to reading interest.
