Abstract

Twitter users are able to produce, share and reply information in Twitter. Some topics which related to Islamic theories are frequently discussed in various perspectives of the user’s ideology. One factor influenced social media users to engage in a discussion is an understanding of the Islamic religion. Some studies have discussed that ideology determine partiality of social media users toward certain discussion group. This research studies the understanding of the Islamic religion towards users' decisions to be involved in a discussion topic. The different ideology of the Islamic theories causes fact, disinformation, misinformation, and hoax information. The data recorded on Twitter conversations about the Islamic religion from November 1st to December 4th, 2019 was collected by Gephi application. On the period, the researcher collected a data population of 28,887 conversations. In the next stage, the researcher took sample which is 10% or equal to 2,889 conversations. The researcher uses content analysis technique to set Twitter users into nine groups of Islamic understanding. The groups are Traditional Islam (2.7%), Native Islam (2.3%), Liberal Islam (11.9%), Post-Traditional Islam (5.9%), Fundamental Islam (49.9%), Transformative Islam (4.4%), Islamic Modernism (9.8%), and others is unidentified (5.6%). Ideological factors and values affect information values. The result of the calculation of Pearson correlation coefficient between information values and ideological genre values shows -0.812 for Traditional Islam, -0.918 for Native Islam, -0.605 for Liberal Islam, -0.822 for Post-Traditional Islam, -0.901 for Transformative Islam, -0.505 for Islam Modernism, -0.712 for Islam Neo Modernism, -0.817 for Inclusive Islam. According to the correlation coefficient value which shows negative (-) relationship, the researcher concludes that the higher the ideological value, the lower the value of misinformation. However, Fundamentalist Islamic ideology shows a direct relationship to information value, with a correlation value of 0.855. Therefore, the higher the value of fundamentalist Islamic ideology, the higher misinformation produced.
