Abstract

Discourse about the development of social media platforms and various communication phenomena is always interesting to study. One of the most extensive social networking platforms used by Indonesians is Instagram. Instagram offers various communication features for users. However, with various advantages offered by Instagram, some users change their function as a scary communication media. One of the activities on Instagram is cyberstalking. While one of the most talked about Instagram accounts in 2019 is @englishbusters. The vision of @englishbusters is to provide English language education to Indonesian influencers. However, @ englishbusters‟s posts has generated a lot of debate. @englishbuster‟s post that proposed for the @emilyyoungryu account is considered unethical. Entering the ethical field, @englishbusters‟s posts will be reviewed based on a prophetic communication perspective. This study aims to describe cyberstalking conducted by @englishbusters through a prophetic communication perspective. Referring to the prophetic values of Kuntowijoyo's ideas, @englishbusters‟s post will be explained based on the values of humanization, liberation, and transcendence. This type of research is descriptive qualitative, with content analysis methods. The unit of analysis in this research is the @ englishbusters‟s post proposed for the @emilyyoungryu account. Data is collected through document studies, then analyzed through predetermined methods. The result of research indicate thaht @englishbuster‟s post is not match with the humanization value of prophetic communication because this post contains hate incitement which triggers collective aggressiveness and also dehumanization which result in human objectivation by communication media. The post also does not mach with the liberation value of liberating prophetic communication, because although the upload contains educational messages that free humans from the shackles of ignorance, it also creates fanaticism towards science. This @ englishbusters‟s post cannot be reviewed through the transendece perspective of prophetic communication. This is because transcendence is a part of noumena, an unseen object. So, there is no supporting data in the transcendence perspective of prophetic communication study.
