Abstract

This research aims to determine how the Total Resistance Collective Street Library in interpreting social change, how the Total Resistance Collective Street Library strategy in driving social change, and what are the obstacles and solutions Total Resistance Collective Street Library in encouraging social change. This research uses qualitative research with ethnographic approach. Informants are selected using purposive sampling. Data collection uses observation, interview, and document review techniques. Data analysis using the method of Miles and Hubernas namely: data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Test the validity of the data using the triangulation method and member check. From the results of research conducted, it is known that: (1) Total Resistance Collective Street Library interprets social change as a change that occurs from the current social system towards better conditions, which are based on the values of freedom, equality and solidarity. (2) The strategies implemented by the Total Resistance Collective Street Library in driving social change are four namely: One, an informative strategy by distributing various books and printed and digital reading material. Second, an educational strategy by conducting education through joint discussions, film screenings, making short films, and making zines. Three, persuasive strategies, namely persuasion through merchandise and posters. Fourth, the cultural strategy of building alternative cultures based on values that are believed. (3) The obstacles experienced by the Total Resistance Collective Street Library in encouraging social change are internal obstacles in the form of activists' busyness and limited funds, as well as external obstacles in the form of bad weather, opposition from some communities, community norms, and bad stigma. The solution carried out by the Total Resistance Collective Street Library in overcoming obstacles is the solution of internal constraints by dividing time and maximizing the collective economy, as well as the solution to external constraints by finding alternative places, conducting dialogue, communicating and compromising, and by proving through action. The recommendation of this research is for the Total Resistance Collective Street Library to make detailed records related to the strategy being carried out and conduct an indepth evaluation.
