Abstract

This study aims to determine the description of the subjective well-being of blind people with divorced parents. This study uses a qualitative method with a case study approach. The research informants were blind people aged 22 years old who had divorced parents who were selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data were collected using semi-structured interview techniques and analyzed through the stages of data collection, data reduction, data display, and concluding. The results showed that before parents divorced, blind people were happy and satisfied with their lives because they got full love from their parents. After a parent's divorce, blind people feel sad, angry, pessimistic, afraid, jealous, hopeless, and dissatisfied with their life because they have to separate from their mother, are disappointed with their mother's attitude that causes divorce, quarrels occur in the family, lost precious moments with family, as well as comparing with other people's families. Parental divorce results in blind people being involved in juvenile delinquency because they are unable to manage their negative emotions. After one year since parents' divorce, blind people have managed to get up, feel satisfied and happy, and live a meaningful life. Blind people with divorced parents often feel positive emotions such as being happy, calm, optimistic, and proud. Internal factors that influence subjective well-being are physical health, religiosity, positive thinking, emotional regulation, and problem-solving. External factors that influence subjective well-being are social support from family and peers as well as involvement in activities and organizations.
