Abstract

It is very important for the ederly to find meaning in life in order to become a meaningful individual and feel valuable in his life. The discovery of meaning in life is important, especially for the elderly who are in nursing homes. This study aims to determine the effect of dhikr training to increase the meaning in life of old persons in Panti Wredha Madania Yogyakarta. The design used in this study was a two group pretest-posttest design. The instrument used in this study was a meaningful life scale compiled by the researcher. The result of Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test showed a score of Z = -2.533 with significance level (p) of 0.011 (p <0.05, accepted). This means that there is an significant increase in the meaningful life score of the experimental group after being given dzikir training. And then, the result of Mann Withney U in the experimental group and the control group showed a score Z = -2.366 with significance level (p) = 0.018 (p <0.005, accepted). This means that there is a significant differences between the experimental group and the control group. The results of this study indicate that dhikr training is effective to increase the meaning in life of older persons in Panti Wredha Madania.
