Abstract

This study aims to see about the role of librarians in the library activities at the Library and Archives Service of Gunungkidul Regency. This type of research used in this research is qualitative reseacrh. The subjects in this study were the head of the department, the head of the library, and the librarian of the Gunungkidul Regency Library and Archives Service. While the object of the research is library activities in the Department of Library and Archives Gunungkidul Regency. The data collection methods used were observation, interviews, and documentation. Test the validity of the data in the study using increased persistence, triangulation of sources, and memberchecks. In data analizing research used data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Based on research conducted by researchers, it is concluded that the Librarian at the Library and Archives Office of Gunungkidul Regency has a role as the main facilitator and spearhead of library development. Librarians also play a role in exiting theory, namely as educator where librarians educate users about how to search for information. The librarians role in the Library and Archives Office of Gunungkidul Regency is important because librarians are involved in almost all existing activities. Other roles are as manager (information), administrator, and supervisor. The librarians role is also as blended librarians. This term is used because librarians are required to master matters related to activities or programs in the library, including literacy activities. From the results of this study, it is suggested that people who are considering continue to maintain and develop their roles in activities that should not be maintained and develop their competence in the fiels of librarianship or IT.
