Abstract

This research was motivated by the absence of a landslide early warning system (EWS) that could detect ground movement using an incremental rotary encoder sensor which is controlled via microcontroller ESP32 based on the internet of things (IoT) and SMS gateway. This study aimed to design, create, and test the EWS for landslide disasters based on incremental rotary encoder sensors, IoT, and SMS gateway. The system design was made using Sketchup Pro 2021 software, while the system schematic by Eagle 9.6.2 software. Construction of the system was done in two stages, namely the manufacturing of hardware and software development. Hardware manufacturing started from preparing tools and materials, making PCB, assembling components, and checking the system, while software development was done by making a BOT on the Telegram applications, and development and combining the sketch programs. System testing was done by varying the distance of peg from 10 cm to 200 cm with interval of 10 cm. Each distance measurement had repeated 5th times. The test results based on safe conditions or status showed the success rate of BOT Telegram A and B also SMS A and B were 100%. Likewise, the test results based on alert condition or status showed a 100% success rate.
