Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between family social support and self-adjustment of overseas students in Yogyakarta. Another purpose of this study was to find out the effective contribution of family social support in helping to improve the adjustment of overseas students in Yogyakarta. The sampling technique in this study using a accidental sampling technique. The sample in this study were the characteristics of overseas students in Yogyakarta, 1-3 semester students, and living in a boarding house, dormitory, or in a rented house and not living together in a family. The number of samples of this study was 85 people, using a scale of self-adjustment and family social support as a means of collecting data with alpha coefficients (reliability) of 0.872 and 0.853, respectively. The data analysis with Pearson product-moment method. The results of the were analysis show that the variable family social support and self-adjustment have r 0.668 and a p-value of 0.000 (p <0.05). It indicated that there was a very significant positive relationship between family social support and self-adjustment of overseas students in Yogyakarta. The higher the family social support received, the higher the level of self-adjustment of overseas students in Yogyakarta. Whereas, if the lower the family social support, the lower the self-adjustment. The amount of the effective contribution of the family social support to self-adjustment is 44.6%. Thus the research hypothesis is accepted.
