Abstract
The research which studied the effect of adding grapefruit peel pectin on the mechanical properties and biodegradation of glycerol plasticized arrowroot starch in soil media was carried out. This study aims to understand how the effect of adding grapefruit peel pectin on its mechanical properties includes thickness, tensile strength, elongation, and young modulus. This study also aims to understand how the effect of adding grapefruit peel pectin on the biodegradability of arrowroot starch bioplastics in soil media. The results showed that the addition of grapefruit pectin could increase the thickness value, decrease the tensile strength value, increase the elongation value, and decrease the young modulus. Bioplastic biodegradation tests on soil media showed a decrease in the shape, texture, and colour parameters. Overall, it can be concluded that the addition of grapefruit peel pectin has a significant effect on the mechanical properties and biodegradation of glycerol plasticized arrowroot starch.
