Abstract

The present study is addressed to know the dynamic of purpose in life abdi dalem Keraton Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat who on early adult age. The study was conducted to 3 informants who work as abdi dalem. The study was carried using qualitative method with phenomenological approach. The data for this study was gathered using semi-structured interviews and observations, while the data were processed with data reduction, coding, categorization, clustering, and conclusion drawing. The result of present study suggest that informants are have purpose in live 1) preserving culture, 2) contribute on society, 3) serenity of life. There is an obstacle on preserving culture, the informant one time feel bored with custom clothing and on rule in Keraton that women can’t wear jilbab. Contribute on society make informants improving their good behavior to help their society better. There is a process on reaching serenity in life and there is obstacle to reach it on one of the informant, he is overthinking about his problem and affect his serenity. The factors contributing on their purpose in life are 1) be an abdi dalem from generation to generation, 2) childhood experiences, 3) adolescent experiences, 4) abdi dalem neighborhood that viscous with culture, 5) saw another abdi dalem.
