Abstract

The Consumer Protection Law has prohibited business actors from selling goods that do not contain labels. However, unlabelled packaged foods were found circulating in the Pleret Market. Based on this case, the compilers are interested in conducting research with the aim of seeing the implementation of consumer protection for unlabeled packaged food in the Pleret Market and seeing its compliance with laws and regulations on consumer protection. This research is descriptive-analytical field research. The approach used is an empirical juridical approach with data sourced from interviews and observations at Pleret Market and literature studies. The data are then analyzed qualitatively to produce descriptive explanations. The result of this research is that there is regular monitoring of the circulation of goods in Pleret Market which is carried out either by the Pleret Market Manager itself, by the Trade Office, or by other related government agencies. However, in dealing with the distribution of unlabeled packaged food in Pleret Market, warnings or sanctions have never been imposed on traders. In addition, there has been no guidance either in the form of directions, outreach or in other forms to consumers and traders regarding food label issues. Second, the implementation of consumer protection in handling the distribution of unlabeled packaged food in the Pleret Market is not yet fully in accordance with statutory regulations. Guidance for consumers and traders regarding food labeling regulations has not been implemented. Even though the supervision has been carried out, there has been no follow-up, whether it is giving directions, giving warnings, or giving administrative sanctions to traders as stipulated in statutory regulations. The sanctions referred to and regulated in the aforementioned statutory include the prohibition of trading and withdrawing goods from the market, revocation of trading licenses by the issuing official, and/or revocation of other technical permits by the competent official.
