Abstract

In accordance with Law No. 20 of 2003 concerning the National Education System in Article 3, which states that national education functions to develop abilities and shape character, education in junior high schools must be carried out systematically in order to achieve these goals. In instilling character in students, the government has a new breakthrough so that character can be embedded in students, one of which is the full day school or what is called the five day school. Most parents agree with the five day school system because it is very helpful in instilling character in children. Because many single parents or career parents are very lacking in supervising and paying attention to children, especially those related to children's activities after school. In the implementation of learning activities at SMP Muhammadiyah 8 Yogyakarta and SMP Muhammadiyah 9 Yogyakarta, they also implement the Five Day School and implement strengthening character education in them with the aim that schools not only produce intellectually intelligent students but also have good character. This research is a qualitative field research with the background of SMP Muhammadiyah 8 Yogyakarta and SMP Negeri 9 Yogyakarta. Data collection was carried out by conducting observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation. While data analysis was carried out by data reduction steps, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The data validity check was carried out by conducting two types of triangulation, namely triangulation of sources and triangulation of methods. The results showed: (1) The development of strengthening the character education for religiosity and independence of students at SMP Muhammadiyah 8 Yogyakarta and SMP Negeri 9 Yogyakarta was carried out with the concept of incorporating PPK into school intracurricular, extracurricular and co-curricular activities. (2) The development of strengthening character education for the religiosity and independence of students at SMP Muhammadiyah 8 Yogyakarta and SMP Negeri 9 Yogyakarta is carried out during teaching and learning activities, giving independent assignments to students, habits carried out in schools such as dhuha prayer, Al Quran tadarus before learning. started, Dhuhr prayers and Asr prayers in congregation, as well as the implementation of Hisbul Wathan extracurricular activities, Scout extracurricular activities and extra IMTAQ and MTQ. (3) The method of developing the strengthening of character education for religiosity and independence of students at SMP Muhammadiyah 8 Yogyakarta and SMP Negeri 9 Yogyakarta consists of exemplary methods, advice, habituation, attention / supervision, punishment, discussion, simulation, conversation, parable, and teaching.
