Abstract

This research was conducted due to field observations indicating that online learning required educators to creatively design a learning process so that learning objectives could be achieved. One of the ways was by choosing creative, innovative, interesting, and fun learning media for children. However, the facts identified that there was still a lack of innovative, unique, and interesting learning media for children. Additionally, teachers also found issues to deliver a sub-theme of sun, moon, and star. Hence, augmented reality media should have been developed as a means to improve children's cognitive development with the sub-theme of sun, moon, and star. This research and development (R&D) aimed to determine the development process stages, the feasibility, and the effectiveness of augmented reality media to improve children's cognitive development. This research and development employed the Pre-Experimental Designs approach (one group pretest-posttest design) included a pretest, treatment, and posttest. Meanwhile, two types of data used were quantitative and qualitative. The development of augmented reality media in this study was carried out in several stages including information collection, plan, product development, design validation, design revision, product testing, revision, and product trial. The research result of augmented reality media feasibility development as a whole identified a score of 26.84 with an average of 4.47. On that ground, the augmented reality media was categorized as feasible. Thus, it was considered feasible to be used as a learning medium in early childhood. Furthermore, the result of augmented reality media development to improve children's cognitive development obtained a pretest score of 57.71 and a posttest score of 86.57, with the difference between the two average scores of 28.86. It implied that there was an increase in the average score before and after using augmented reality media to develop children's cognitive development. Additionally, it also showed that children were enthusiastic to follow the learning activity using augmented reality media.
