Abstract

Curriculum management is an important variable implementation the learning process to achieve the vision and mision of islamic higher education institutions. Therefore, curriculum management is needed that can achieve the learning objectives completely in accordance with the needs of the time. The effort to renew curriculum management for islamic institutions can be carried out by implementation a block system curriculum management. So far, block system curriculum is known on the campus of medicine and health sciences. In this research the block system curriculum was implementation in the agribusiness study program of the halal industry faculty, UNU Yogyakarta. So that the result of this study can be taken into consideration for other education islamic institutions that will implement the block system curriculum. This research was conducted in agriculture communication courses at the Agribusiness Study Program, Faculty of Halal Industry, UNU, Yogyakarta.This type of research is field research, using qualitative descriptive methods, data collection using methods of observation, interviews and documentation. The validity of the data uses triangulation of methods and sources. The collected data was analyzed by the stages of data reduction, data presentation, verification and conclusion. The results: (1) Block system curriculum is a curriculum that integrates various subjects into one block in order to achieve complete learning competency. Learning strategies using student centered, with themes of learning supported by phenomena in the community. The components of the block system curriculum include learning objectives, curriculum content, and learning strategies and methods. It is hoped that students will not only understand in theory, but be able to convey agricultural knowledge to the public. (2) Implementation of curriculum management with several steps, namely: Planning by formulating curriculum objectives, considering human resources, considering lecture infrastructure, making strategic implementation steps, operational development, and implementation. The organizing of the block system curriculum at the study program level is regulated by the block team and person in charge. The implementation of the block system in sequence with the problem based learning method. Monitoring and evaluation are conducted in biweekly, monthly and end of semester work meetings.(3) Factors supporting the implementation of the block system curriculum such as, extensive campus network, professional block teams, having community laboratories, and adequate lecture rooms. The inhibiting factors for the implementation of the block curriculum are, the block team has no background in block system education, the number of blocks in charge is limited, there are no PTAI that use the block system curriculum as a comparison material, and the need for the conversion process from the block system to the semester credit system (SKS).
